This weekend the third round of the FIM Supersport World Championship will be held at the TT Circuit Assen as part of the Dutch World Superbike round. An important and special home race for Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing where the Nieuwleusen-based team is going to turn out big.
The historic TT Circuit Assen needs no introduction. The 4.5-kilometre circuit has 12 right turns and 6 left turns and has seen many legendary races over the years. The circuit is about a 40-minute drive from Ten Kate’s headquarters, making it rightfully a home race for the team.
Stefano Manzi comes to the TT Circuit Assen in top form after finishing second in Race 1 in Barcelona and winning Race 2. The Italian will want to maintain this form this weekend and do his best to close the 11-point gap to the world championship leader.
For Glenn van Straalen, it is of course a very special race weekend. Like for the team, it is the home race for the rider from Hoogkarspel and he will want to shine after a solid weekend in Barcelona. The 23-year-old Van Straalen was on the podium in Assen in 2022 and 2023.
Stefano Manzi: “It is race week again and it will be a very important one for the team. It is of course their home race so I think I can call it my second home race as well. I am looking forward to ride again in Assen because it is a track that I like a lot. I cannot wait for Friday to start working with the team again, I hope we can have a great weekend together.”
Glenn van Straalen: “I am really looking forward to ride in front of the home crowd this weekend. For sure we will stand out during the races. I hope we can have a good race weekend here, during the test just over two weeks ago we were already able to do some laps. I go into the weekend with a lot of confidence and I think we can show something good.”
Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “We are racing at the TT Circuit Assen this weekend and that is always very special for us. After Stefano managed to win in Barcelona, you naturally go to your home race with a very good feeling. Ten Kate Racing always comes to Assen with something special and that will also be the case this year, we have never had so many activities planned as this year. Friday night we will present a special livery for Glenn van Straalen and we will also deliver some GYTR PRO machines where Glenn and Jonathan Rea will be present. On Saturday we will have a big networking meeting for all our sponsors and relations. We recently had two days of testing at Assen, one dry and one wet day, so we are very well prepared for a good weekend with both riders.”
The race weekend at the TT Circuit Assen starts with a free practice session on Friday morning followed by the Superpole session at 16:00 in the afternoon. After a warm-up session on Saturday morning, Race 1 kicks off at 15:15h in the afternoon. The same goes for Sunday with a warm-up session in the morning and Race 2 at 15:15h.
