TAG Racing has re-signed Richard Cooper for BSB

The thirty year old remains with the team for the British Superbike Championship 2014

Taken from Tag Racing press release earlier today:

The former National Superstock 1000 champion is no stranger to 1000cc machines like the Kawasaki ZX-10R he will campaign in 2014, having competed for many years in the European and British Superstock 1000 classes prior to winning the national series in 2011.

It will be the first time that the Nottingham-based star has competed full-time in the superbike class, however Cooper will not be a debutant, having demonstrated his prowess by winning the cup division and qualifying impressively on the front row in a rare outing at Mallory Park in 2009. The supersport race winner is also a four-time Stars of Darley winner on superbike machinery and has competed in the Superbike World Championship for the factory BMW team.

Commenting on the season ahead, Cooper said: “The time feels right for me to move into superbike and I am really excited about 2014. I have raced across the different classes and this is the perfect opportunity now for me to step up with TAG Racing as we have a strong foundation from working together in the supersport class. The rules in the superbike championship lend themselves to giving teams like us the opportunity to try and take on some of the more established teams and we are already working on the Kawasaki so that it suits my style and that will bring confidence. The buzz at the moment is about BSB and it feels great to know that we are going to be a part of that next year. I have my targets for next year and we are looking for a debut season that we can then build on and move forward in the future.”

Rob Winfield, owner of TAG Racing, added: “Richard has been part of the TAG family for the past two years. Having spent most of his career on 1000cc superstock bikes, he did an excellent job adapting to our Triumphs in supersport and was in a different class at the last round of the championship at Brands Hatch. Despite that, I still believe that his riding style is better suited to the more powerful superbikes and I think that he will have no problem adapting to the ZX-10R. I know that he had several offers from other teams, so we are delighted that he has put his faith in us as we go into our first year in the British superbike class.”

The team will run two bikes in the 2014 championship and is currently in discussions with riders to fill the second seat.

Eazi-Grip™ Sponsored Tag Racing Moves Up To British Superbikes 2014

Eazi-Grip™ sponsored Tag Racing will be moving up to British superbikes in 2014. The supersport team based in Swadlincote, Derbyshire will join the championship running the Kawasaki ZX-10R.

“We’ve been considering a switch to superbikes for a while now and feel that the time is right for us to take on this new challenge,” said team owner Rob Winfield.

“The championship rules allow privately run teams like ours to compete on a level playing field and we are confident that we have the experience and resources to step up and contribute to what is one of the world’s most exciting race series.

“As a team, we have learned a great deal racing in the supersport class and have proved ourselves through a series of race wins, pole positions and fastest laps. We’ve worked hard over the years to put out a professional team and we are delighted that this has been recognised by Kawasaki Motors UK and MSVR, who have both welcomed our move into the superbike class. Racing in superbike will not only provide us with a fresh sporting challenge but will give considerably more exposure for our team sponsors.”

Quattro Plant Kawasaki team finalise their 2014 line up

Having already announced the return of pure road race expert James Hillier to the official Kawasaki Motors UK Roads Team, the highly respected racing enterprise have now confirmed their 2014 BSB line up welcoming two new riders to the squad in the guise of Dan Linfoot and Howie Mainwaring.

Linfoot has a wealth of experience that belies his youthful appearance and the 25 year old rider has already expressed a desire to test the awesome Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R as soon as possible. Working with highly experienced crew chief, Ray Stringer, the pair are excited about getting out on track come season start.

Mainwaring is already known as a Kawasaki man and showed some great pace in the 2013 season on Ninja machinery. Naturally, the team are confident that, with the right bike and his considerable experience, Howie will be at the sharp end in the near future.

Team Owner, Pete Extance, commented. “With James Hillier on the roads and now Dan and Howie riding in BSB we couldn’t ask for a better line up of young, enthusiastic and experienced riders.

For James Hillier, Isle of Man TT and NW 200 victories are certainly possible following on from his first win this year. In respect of Dan, a BSB showdown position is our goal and expectation whilst, for Howie, we are looking for consistent top ten placings as a platform for further success.”

Congratulations to Marc Marquez becoming the youngest champion to win the MotoGP!

“It is a dream come true, earlier than we expected. I was quite clever and understood that the championship was much more important than one race”

“We just say thanks to Honda, my team and all the people that help me. I just want to enjoy this moment.

“What I said yesterday was true – I said Jorge would be first, Dani second and me third!”

Marquez became the youngest ever rider to win the MotoGP this weekend in Valencia aged just 20. Jorge Lorenzo won the race but Marquez only had to finish fourth to become the first debut-season title-winner since American Kenny Roberts in 1978.

The Repsol Honda rider kept a level head to finish third behind Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo and team-mate Dani Pedrosa in Spain in a tense but thrilling finale.

A huge congratulations to Marquez and the team!
