Tommy Bridewell is fully focused on the BSB Brands Hatch final

Tommy Bridewell is gearing up for the final round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch this weekend as the Oxford Products Racing Ducati rider remains fully focused on taking the fight to the finish.

Bridewell heads into the final round holding third in the overall championship standings, a single point adrift of Glenn Irwin ahead of him, but knowing that Bradley Ray has a comfortable margin ahead of the decisive three races this weekend.

Bridewell claimed two third places at the Kent venue earlier in the season and is hunting his first victory on the Grand Prix circuit.

Bridewell said: “Firstly I go to the last round this weekend fully focused and fully hopeful that anything can happen. I don’t sit back and think Brad has one hand on the trophy and that is that, I still believe, work and train the same as I always do. You have to as a racer and we have seen things change in the past.

“I am still driven and I want to fight for the best result we can. Brands Hatch is such an iconic circuit and it is only right the season ends here. In my early days of racing, it was never one of my favourite tracks, but as I have got older it has really clicked for me and I would probably say it is one of my favourite tracks in the UK now if I am honest. I have had good results there, but I have never had a race win so that is on the to-do list for this weekend.

“I need a lot of luck with the championship and I need to win all three races, the battle with Glenn for second in the championship, you need to box a little bit smarter if you are driven to finish second in the standings – which obviously I am.

“To be honest I admire the way Glenn rides – he never gives up and also his determination as a racer.  I am sure it would also be vice-versa. I am sure if you said the same to Glenn which one person would you not want to go head-to-head with, it would probably be someone like myself, because I will near pull the bars off so long as I believe in my bike. If that is the case then there is no doubt in my mind that I can fight to win or finish second in the championship.

“Brands Hatch is a good circuit for the bike for definite, there were some areas earlier in the season that we really struggled with, but since then, we have got the new swingarm which was an improvement for definite. We could see it at Donington Park, in the full dry races we were not a million miles away compared to earlier in the year.

“It will be interesting to see how that helps this weekend, as we haven’t tested it there yet. I am looking forward to that and I have made some changes with the bike too, which I felt was a good improvement at Donington Park, so I am hoping that translates over to this weekend for the final as well.”
