A challenging weekend at Thruxton for Synetiq BMW

Thruxton proved to be a challenging weekend for SYNETIQ BMW riders Danny Buchan and Andrew Irwin with eighth placed finishes the best of the weekend results for both riders. Irwin did qualifying in third place and a front row start for race one, but a minor electrical problem at the beginning of the warm up lap, may have halted his progress but certainly not his desire – later coming from the back of the grid in race two to score points having made up some 18 places in the process, followed by top eight in race three. Danny Buchan also had early mechanical misfortune but recovered to take his aforementioned top eight finish.

Both will now look forward to round seven of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at the famous Cadwell Park mountain circuit in two weeks’ time aboard the TAS Racing prepared M 1000 RR BMWs.

STEVE PLATER SYNETIQ BMW TEAM MANAGER “It was a challenging weekend to say the least and while we are still working to find that magic window with the M 1000 RR, there are a lot of positives to take from the weekend where the riders and team worked tirelessly to work our way up the grid and into the business end of the points. Full credit to the whole team and both riders for digging in and sticking with it. Those top eight finishes were hard fought.”

PHILIP NEILL SYNETIQ BMW TEAM PRINCIPAL “Thruxton can be a difficult circuit for setup, however we managed to find some decent pace for both Andrew and Danny with the M 1000 RR and individually they had a good result each on Sunday. Unfortunately we had a couple of small mechanical issues which affected our consistency across the weekend and this is very frustrating for both team and riders. All we can do now is focus our attentions on the next round and hope we can achieve the results we know both our riders and the BMW M 1000 RR are capable of. Thanks as always to our partners and to our team personnel for their efforts throughout a hot weekend.”

ANDREW IRWIN #18 SYNETIQ BMW RIDER “It was a much more positive weekend even though we had a small problem that kept us from producing something positive from the front row in race one. 13th from 31st on the grid in race two was a big effort and in race three I felt a lot more comfortable finish 8th. But for the problem on Saturday we could well have been fighting for podiums this weekend but it’s coming. The team did a great job as always so thank you.”

DANNY BUCHAN #83 SYNETIQ BMW RIDER “It was a tough weekend. There’s no hiding from that fact, but we recovered and scored some points and really need Lady Luck to shine on us at Cadwell Park, which is next up and a big favourite of mine. It certainly wasn’t about a lack of effort this weekend as we are working harder than ever and the results and consistency will come. We will make sure of that.”
