PTR Triumph Racing Factory Team’s Tom Booth-Amos delivered a standout performance in a drama filled Race 1 at Assen, battling through set-backs to secure a hard-earned third-place finish.

Starting from fourth on the grid, the British rider spent much of the 18-lap contest just outside the podium positions, consistently maintaining contact with the leading group. As the race reached its closing stages, Booth-Amos made his move at Turn 16, attempting an overtake on Can Öncü for third place. The pair made contact during the manoeuvre, forcing both riders wide onto the gravel.

Despite dropping back to fifth, Booth-Amos quickly regained control of the situation. However, he was later handed a penalty for irresponsible riding, demoting him to sixth position.

Undeterred, he responded with determination and composure, closing the gap to the front group once again. His persistence paid off, as he fought his way back to claim third place at the chequered flag, securing his first podium finish of the 2026 season.

Tom Booth-Amos: It wasn’t an easy race.  After an incident with another rider I had to drop one position but I stayed focused, kept pushing and fought my way to P3.  Proud of the recovery and the pace we showed today.”

On the other side of the garage, teammate Oli Bayliss endured a challenging Race 1. After receiving a penalty for a yellow flag infringement in qualifying, he was forced to start from the back of the grid in 33rd position. From there, Bayliss produced a determined recovery ride, working his way through the field over 18 laps to finish 18th, just outside the points and only 11 seconds behind the race winner, underlining the depth of competition in the World Supersport category.

Oli Bayliss: “Another difficult race today especially starting from the back of the grid with a penalty.  Not really ideal.  Looking back at the race I should’ve used a softer tyre to try and set a lap inside the top 10 as we were not too far off.  The starting position tomorrow still isn’t special but it’s a lot better than 33rd so we’ve got more potential.”

PTR Triumph Racing Factory Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “Really good for us to be back on the podium after the disappointment of the first two rounds for Tom. What a great race.  We went on the zero tyre so we had more grip then on the last lap and Tom made up over a second on the last lap.  It’s great to be back on the box.  Congratulations to Tom but really to everyone in the team on both sides of the garage, we all work so hard and I’m pleased for everybody.

Oli had an infringement in qualifying and had to start from the very back.  He got close to the points and, to be fair, he is 11 seconds behind the winner in 18th so that goes to show just how tough it is now in World Supersport.   So, we are going to do everything we can to be back on the podium tomorrow and to get Oli as high up in the race as possible.”

PTR Triumph Racing Factory Team’s Tom Booth-Amos narrowly missed out on a second podium of the weekend in a dramatic, red flag affected Race 2 at Assen, ultimately finishing fourth after a hard-fought ride.

Starting from 11th on the grid, Booth-Amos immediately faced tricky conditions as rain fell just moments before the start of the 18-lap race, leaving the TT Circuit Assen slippery and unpredictable. Cautious opening laps saw him settle into the race, carefully gauging grip levels before building confidence.

As the race developed, Booth-Amos began to make strong progress through the field, setting the fastest lap along the way. Fighting his way into fourth position, he soon joined the battle for the podium and briefly moved into third. However, a small issue interrupted his charge, dropping him back to sixth.

Undeterred, he responded, recovering to fourth place with seven laps remaining and closing back in on the podium fight. With another top-three finish in his sights, he prepared to make his move, but a red flag caused by an on-track incident brought the race to an early conclusion, leaving the British rider classified fourth at his last timing sector.

Tom Booth-Amos: “Very happy to be back fast this weekend, just to get my confidence back and to be back with the bike where I need it to be to be where I am in the races this weekend.  So yes, I am very happy, just a little bit gutted that the race was cut short today but that’s racing. Happy now we just need to continue like this to the next race.”

On the other side of the garage, teammate Oli Bayliss endured a challenging Sunday. Starting the race in P19 the Australian’s race came to a premature end following a crash on lap 3 at the final chicane as he attempted to avoid the slippery wet kerbs.

Oli Bayliss: “A difficult weekend in Assen.  Chasing feeling issues on Friday and a back of the grid penalty on Saturday.  The feeling on the bike finished good but a small crash finished our Sunday race too early.  I’m looking forward to one of my favourite rounds at Balaton Park in a couple of weeks.”

PTR Triumph Racing Factory Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “After the second race in Assen; a big improvement for Tom, I felt he actually could have won both races.  Yesterday the coming together with Can Öncü – which is fine between them now – cost him time but he got back to a fantastic third. Today was a bit iffy at the start he knew he had pace so he didn’t risk too much but then he got back into third looking like winning pace again. He set the fastest lap but then he missed a gear into turn 5 the hairpin, lost a couple of places but got them back and was back in the battle for the podium and the race got red flagged. So we can say disappointed because he had the pace and the speed to win the races but also pleased because after the disappointment of two crashes in Australia and the results in Portimão, it’s great to be back showing the true potential of the PTR Triumph Racing Factory Team. On Oli’s side, it’s so tough in Supersport now, it’s so close. Today he had better feeling in warm up, he made a pretty good start then he ran a bit deep into the last chicane and he didn’t want to run onto the kerbs after the rain so he tried to turn it a bit deeper, lost the front and crashed out.  Hungary last year was his second-best result so we are going there to a track where we know he is strong and Tom arrives there with confidence after this weekend’s results so let’s look forward and thanks to the whole team and Triumph Racing.”
