Tom Booth-Amos just misses podium as Oli Bayliss secures another top 10

PTR Triumph Racing Factory Team riders Tom Booth-Amos and Oli Bayliss both delivered strong performances in Race One of the FIM Supersport World Championship at Misano World Circuit, finishing fourth and seventh respectively after an action-packed 18-lap contest.

Starting from seventh and eighth on the grid, both riders made strong launches from the third row and immediately established themselves inside the leading group around the fast and flowing Italian circuit.

Booth-Amos spent the opening laps firmly in touch with the front and successfully moved ahead of Alessandro Zaccone on lap eight to take fifth position. From there, the British rider steadily closed the gap to Jaume Masia ahead, chipping away at the advantage lap after lap before making the move stick with just three laps remaining to move into fourth place.

The closing stages were not without drama. Having worked hard to secure the position, Booth-Amos remained firmly in the fight for the last podium position as the race entered its final lap. Contact from Masia at the final corner brought a dramatic end to the battle. The Spaniard attempted a last-corner move but made contact with the PTR Triumph rider and crashed on the run to the finish line, leaving Booth-Amos to secure fourth place after a determined ride.

It was not the first time in the race Booth-Amos had found himself avoiding trouble. On the opening lap he was fortunate to stay upright after being hit from behind by Filippo Farioli at turn 14, a moment that could easily have ended his race before it had properly begun.

Tom Booth-Amos: “It was a really good race overall.  Starting from P7 I managed to make up some positions and get closer to the front.  We were fighting for the podium until the last corner where I unfortunately lost the P3 and finished in fourth.  Still very happy and it’s a strong result with good points.  Overall I’m happy with the progress we’ve made and looking forward to tomorrow starting from P3 on the grid.”

Bayliss continued his impressive run of form with another consistent performance, claiming his fourth top ten finish in the last five races. The Australian remained in touch with the leading group throughout the race and looked set to challenge for sixth position in the closing stages.

Attempting a move on Zaccone for sixth place, Bayliss ran slightly wide at turn 16, allowing Mattia Casadei through. However, he maintained his pace to bring home another valuable result and, as a result of Masia’s last-lap crash, crossed the line in seventh position.

Oli Bayliss: “Not a bad race today. A difficult first few laps but in the middle we made up the gap to the group fighting for P3.  I made a small mistake trying to pass another rider which cost me quite a lot of time.  We’ll try again tomorrow to be stronger.”

PTR Triumph Racing Factory Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “It was a great race. Right at the end there, the battle for third there was a bit of a racing incident. Masia crashed and in the end, Tom was lucky to stay on after Masia hit him. I’m happy to say it was a racing incident but we are fourth and we need to find a bit for tomorrow to get on the podium but it was a great job by the team. Also for Oli in seventh, two bikes fighting well inside the top ten so a good job by everybody, we’ll find a bit for tomorrow and let’s see if we can get on that podium.”

Race Two will start tomorrow (Sunday) at 15:15hrs local time. Booth-Amos set the third-fastest lap of the race so will line up third on the front row of the grid, while Bayliss will start from eleventh.

Tom Booth-Amos secures superb Misano podium with a second place finish

PTR Triumph Racing’s Tom Booth-Amos produced a measured and impressive ride to claim second place in Race Two of the FIM Supersport World Championship at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, securing his third podium and best result of the 2026 season so far.

Starting from third on the grid, Booth-Amos lined up on the front row after setting the third-fastest lap in Saturday’s race. Although he was squeezed off the line and lost a couple of positions, the British rider wasted little time fighting back and was already up to fourth place by the end of the opening lap.

Running directly behind Valentin Debise, Booth-Amos stayed patient before capitalising on a mistake from the Frenchman on lap three. The PTR Triumph rider made a decisive move to take third place and immediately set his sights on race leader Albert Arenas and second-placed Aldi Mahendra ahead.

Showing strong pace and consistency, Booth-Amos closed the gap to Mahendra before making his move stick on lap eight to move into second position. From there, the race entered a crucial phase as Booth-Amos tried to bridge the gap to Arenas while keeping Mahendra at bay.

Despite the pressure from behind, Booth-Amos remained composed and controlled over the closing laps. The British rider successfully defended second place while continuing to chip away at Arenas’ advantage, ultimately crossing the line less than two seconds behind the race winner after one of his strongest rides of the season.

Tom Booth-Amos: “It was a tough race in really hot conditions, so I’m delighted to finish in P2! It’s my best result of the season so far, and massive thank you to the team for all their hard work throughout the weekend. We made such good progress and I’m already looking forward to my home race at Donington Park in four weeks time.”

Teammate Oli Bayliss endured a more difficult race after starting from 11th on the grid. The Australian did not get the launch he had hoped for but quickly settled into the battle for top-ten positions and was making progress through a fiercely contested midfield group.

Unfortunately, an incident midway through the race cost Bayliss significant time and dropped him down the order. Despite continuing to push until the chequered flag, he ultimately came in 16th, bringing a frustrating end to the weekend at Misano.

Oli Bayliss: “Not our best day today, after a positive warm up I thought we could have a good race, though as in the past we have struggled a lot in the hot conditions and I felt a bit like a sitting duck in the race. Now a bit of time off for the team while I go to the BSB rounds in between. Thanks to everyone.”

PTR Triumph Racing Factory Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “Back on the podium with P2 which is our best result of the season for Tom and P4 yesterday so it’s been a really good weekend for him. Also Oli had a really good race yesterday. Today he didn’t make a great start and he ran on at turn eight. The problem is, after the first three riders there was a gap and then just a big line of riders, so once you are at the end of that line it’s so tough now in Supersport, everyone is so even. Ok he finished 16th which compared to yesterday is not good but overall I want to say it’s great to have our best result of the season going to our home round so we go with confidence. Congratulations to the whole team, everyone works as a team so let’s look to the next race.”
