Tom Booth-Amos scores points in Portimao WorldSSP round

PTR Triumph Factory Racing returned to action in round two of the 2026 FIM Supersport World Championship this weekend, with Tom Booth-Amos securing points finishes in both races at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão.

The team began their weekend on Friday at the challenging 4.5km Portuguese circuit, with Booth-Amos delivering a strong performance to finish inside the top ten during the free practice session.

Superpole, however proved frustrating. A red flag disrupted proceedings and after the session resumed with only five minutes remaining, a yellow flag meant deleted lap times limited both riders’ opportunities to showcase their true pace. Booth-Amos qualified 11th, while teammate Oli Bayliss lined up 18th on the grid for Race One.

With sunny, dry conditions for Saturday’s race, Booth-Amos made a strong start and quickly established himself inside the top ten. Running as high as ninth during the opening half of the race, the British rider battled hard throughout before crossing the line in 12th, securing valuable championship points. Bayliss, meanwhile, showed promising early pace but was forced to retire from the 17-lap contest with a technical issue.

n today’s Race Two, Booth-Amos again demonstrated solid racecraft. Starting from 12th, he moved into the top ten in the early laps and held position before running in clean air in 11th. A mistake at turn five saw him lose one position before rejoining the track and subsequently receiving a long lap penalty for an ‘unsafe rejoin’. Despite the setback, Booth-Amos regrouped and pushed on to finish 12th, adding more important points to his tally.

Bayliss was once again forced to retire from the 17-lap race on the opening lap with a clutch issue off the line.

PTR Triumph Factory Racing will now look ahead to Round 3 of the FIM Supersport World Championship at Assen

Tom Booth-Amos: “Sadly we’re not where we wanted to be this weekend, or where we know we can be.  We’ve struggled a lot with set-up and not feeling comfortable as I need to be on the bike.  However, we’ve had two race finishes and managed to get some points, but we need to have a look, understand a few things and come back stronger at Assen in a few weeks time.”

Oli Bayliss: “ It’s been a difficult one here in Portimao, we started a little on the back foot and we’ve just not been able to make much progress as the weekend has gone on.  Unfortunately I was forced to retire from both races so we’ve come away with not points and it’s not really been our weekend.  We now need to move forward to Assen and see if we can make progress there.”

PTR Triumph Racing Factory Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “Obviously not the weekend we wanted.  With Oli we really didn’t get to see if race two was going to be better for him, if he could be more comfortable and relaxed and perform like we know he can on the bike.  With Tom starting from P12 and with disappointment really carrying on from Australia it took him 3 or 4 laps to really get going in race two. But then you look at his lap times, they are competitive for the top six but then a mistake and he had to do a long lap penalty so we only finished P12 when we should still have been inside the top ten. Even then that’s not where we really want to be but we can see it’s still there.  We will work together because we know when he is feeling right in himself, the combination of him and the Triumph 765 Street Triple is a winning combination. We go to Assen we’ll set the bike how we set it last year when we were fighting for the win and just work with Tom and Oli on feeling good together and getting the results we know we all deserve.  We are still a great team, they are still great riders so we need to stick together and work for that, look forward to Assen and make it count.”
