Tom Booth-Amos fights to fifth and Oli Bayliss toughs it out at Misano

Saturday

In sweltering conditions at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, Tom Booth-Amos delivered a gutsy performance in Race One of the 2025 FIM Supersport World Championship, charging from P8 on the grid to a strong fifth-place finish after 18 intense laps of action.

Launching from the third row, Booth-Amos made a blistering start, immediately gaining ground and moving up to fourth by the first sector.  Settling into the lead group, he showed strong pace early on and looked every bit a podium contender.

Midway through the race a fierce on-track battle with Marcel Schrötter cost the British rider valuable time, preventing him from capitalising on his race winning speed.  Despite this he fought hard in the closing laps to take fifth at the chequered flag and remains third in the overall Championship.

Tom Booth-Amos: “Fifth so actually it is better than I thought it would be to be honest. I had to work for it but overall felt pretty good just a shame I got stuck behind Marcel and couldn’t get past otherwise I felt like I had podium pace so we’ll try again tomorrow.”

It was a challenging start to round six for teammate Oli Bayliss who was unable to profit from his improved qualifying performance of P12.  A tough start saw him shuffled back down the order, dropping to P18 off the start.  Struggling with a lack of overall feeling on the bike, the Aussie youngster found it difficult to regain ground in the tightly contested field and eventually crossed the line in 19th place.

Oli Bayliss: “A really difficult day today.  I don’t have a lot of feeling in the bike and we’re struggling a lot.  I felt like a sitting duck out there today.  We’ll try and figure out what’s going on and have a better day tomorrow.”

PTR Triumph Racing Factory Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “I was talking to Tom after the race and neither of us had been sure where he was going to finish because it is so tight around here.  But, a good start and he actually rode a great race he just got beat up a bit in the middle there, ended up behind Schrötter and Oettl and that is what cost him the chance to challenge for the win. He did get by them towards the end, gapped them and closed on the leaders but there was just no time left so we can see we have the realistic chance of the podium tomorrow.  He starts one row further forward tomorrow so everything to go for.  Oli started on the fourth row which was much better than in previous races but he messed up the start and then he was eighteenth but the lap time at the end of the race was good enough to be in the points.  So, he will lose a grid place tomorrow dropping from 12th to 13th He has the pace to be in the points, he should be in the points and we will do everything we can to get him where we all want him to be.”

Sunday

In sweltering heat at the Misano World Circuit, Race Two of the FIM Supersport World Championship ended in bitter disappointment for British rider Tom Booth-Amos who was taken out of strong podium contention in the early stages of the race.

Booth-Amos was riding with supreme confidence and form, firmly in the battle for the win and comfortably holding third place at the very worst, when a reckless move by Farioli at turn 8 on lap three took him out of the race, fortunately he was unhurt in the crash.

Despite the early exit, Booth-Amos had already made a statement with his pace, setting the fastest lap of the race with a blistering 1’37.741 on lap two, underlining his ability to fight at the front.

The team now regroups and looks ahead to the next round at Donington Park – the team and rider’s home round – buoyed by Booth-Amos’ undeniable speed and form displayed at Misano.

Tom Booth-Amos: “Obviously not the result we wanted, unfortunately got wiped out on the third lap by another rider, out of control.  It’s a shame because I felt really good I actually felt a lot better than yesterday, more comfortable.  We just need to come back stronger for the second half of the season.”

Teammate Oli Bayliss made positive strides in Race Two, improving both his position and pace.  Whilst the overall lap times were slower across the race compared to Saturday’s Race One, Bayliss’ were similar.

The Australian rider progressed from P13 on the grid to 11th place when a red flag on lap 14 – deployed due to a crash – led to the race being declared early.

Oli Bayliss: “A step in the right direction today.  Made good progress but didn’t have the pace to go in the first couple of laps.  After that we kept a nice pace until the red flag.”

PTR Triumph Racing Factory Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “What can I say?  Tom had the pace, it really looked like he had the pace to win. He was really happy with some small adjustments we made from Race One to Race Two, everything looked good and Farioli just took him out.  Maybe he will get a one or two lap penalty for that but it’s not enough, more needs to be done about things like this. Ok Farioli’s not in a championship fight but it’s affected us, dropped us in the championship and all we have to show for it is a fastest lap award.  Disappointed by that, really pleased with the pace we had and that we are challenging for the wins, all we can do is take that form to Donington.  In the case of Oli, eleventh place is good some improvements in Race Two but obviously we need more, we made a step but he needs another bigger step to be where he and the bike are capable of being.”
