The WorldSBK championship heads to Jerez for BMW and Toprak Razgatlioglu

Two victories closer to the Riders’ World Championship title and important successes for the Manufacturers’ Championship – Toprak Razgatlioglu, BMW Motorrad Motorsport and the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team also showed off their skills in Estoril. The penultimate round of the 2025 FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) season took place at the Portuguese racetrack near Lisbon. Razgatlioglu celebrated victories in the first main race and the Superpole Race on his #1 BMW M 1000 RR, and took second place on the podium in the second main race. He also set new lap records. As leader of the Riders’ Championship, “El Turco” heads into the finale next weekend in Jerez de la Frontera with a 39-point lead over his closest rival, Nicolò Bulega (Ducati).

Teammate Michael van der Mark (NED) also performed strongly at Estoril. In the first race on Saturday, he was involved in a multi-rider accident at the first corner through no fault of his own. He was able to rejoin the field at the restart, but struggled with technical issues and finished 15th. In the Superpole Race, he secured a crucial ninth place to move up the grid for race two, which he finished tenth, back in the top 10.

In the manufacturers’ standings, BMW remains hot on the heels of leader Ducati. The gap is only three points heading into the finale. Another 62 points will be up for grabs at the final three races of the year in Jerez de la Frontera.

Sven Blusch, Head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport: “It was another important step towards the title, a nearly perfect weekend for us. With two first places and a second place, we can now travel to Jerez with a very good points lead. Toprak’s performance was once again exceptional. At the same time, however, we must also emphasize Nicolò Bulega’s performance. What the two of them showed in the races, with a large lead over the rest of the field, was on a different level. We are also very happy with Mickey’s performance; he did a great job with his top-10 results. I think he’s also ready for Jerez for what will be his last race weekend in WorldSBK for the time being. We will now give it our all in Berlin, Munich, England, and at the track to be as well prepared as possible, and we are looking forward to the season finale.”

Christian Gonschor, Technical Director BMW Motorrad Motorsport: “It was another fantastic weekend with two wins, pole position, lap records, and a second-place finish. With a magnificent weekend, Toprak further extended his lead in the Riders’ World Championship. It was a tremendous success that the entire team can be proud of. Toprak demonstrated his professionalism in every race and knew in the second main race that second place was also very important for the World Championship, for the ultimate goal. He didn’t take any unnecessary risks in pursuit of first place. Looking ahead to Jerez, we’re looking forward to an exciting finale, combined with a big thank you to the organizers and the FIM, who, with their control and regulation mechanisms, ensure a fair competition. This will delight the fans both on site and on TV with two fantastic riders at the front.”

Toprak Razgatlioglu, ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team: “I was really happy to win the first race. At the beginning, everything was under control, but then Nicolò had a bit more grip than me. Towards the end of the race, I had a lot of wheelspin, but so did he. In the Superpole race, the start was a bit difficult; I fought with Nicolò for the first two laps. After that, I just focused on my own pace, trying to set good lap times and not make any mistakes. In the end, I was able to win again. Race two was more difficult for me. I was fifth initially and had to fight my way back up, but I just focused on catching Nicolò. Once I was back in second, I pushed so hard on every lap that the rear tire faded, and I was struggling a lot. I had to start managing my race and just thought, ‘Okay, it’s impossible to win this time. Second place is enough because I need the points for the championship.'” Now I’m looking forward to Jerez. We have a small cushion in the championship, and we’ll see what happens next. Nicolò is very strong in Jerez, but I’ll give it my best again.”

Michael van der Mark, ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team: “We’ve had a great feeling with the bike over the last few race weekends, but when we came here, for some reason, we struggled at the beginning. We couldn’t find the right feeling or speed on Friday. On Saturday morning, we significantly improved our pace and overall package. I was confident for Superpole, but unfortunately, I lost a lot of time by missing a gear. Especially here, you lose a lot of starting positions because of that, and twelfth place wasn’t ideal. In the first race, I had a good start, but unfortunately, someone crashed at Turn 1 and took me with him. The guys in the garage made sure the spare bike was ready, and I was able to take part in the restart. After a few good laps, I unfortunately had a technical problem. I was able to finish the race and at least score a point, but Saturday was very disappointing. In the Superpole race on Sunday, we opted for the race tire because we felt the qualifying tire would be a big risk. I finished ninth, which wasn’t bad at all. It was good to move up the grid, especially for Turn 1. My start in race two wasn’t great, but I had good pace. I was closing in on the riders in front of me, but once I got really close, I struggled a bit with the bike. I pushed hard and finished tenth, which helped me score more points. Now I’m looking forward to Jerez, especially with the championship in mind. It looks like Toprak will win it there—that’s what everyone’s looking at right now.”
