This weekend, the twelfth and final round of the 2024 FIM Supersport World Championship will be held at the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto in Spain. With Stefano Manzi, Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing still has a chance of winning the world title, although it is not solely in the hands of the Italian rider and the Dutch team.
With four races in five weekends, this weekend sees the final round of the 2024 World Supersport season at the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto. After a long season, and especially a busy recent period, there is still a chance for Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing to take the world title with Stefano Manzi. The Italian is 45 points behind World Championship leader Adrián Huertas, making him the only one who can still keep the Spaniard from the world title. This makes the chances of a world title for Manzi and Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing small but not impossible.
The Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto is familiar territory for just about everyone in the WorldSBK paddock because, besides the races, a lot of testing takes place there. It is a circuit that has pretty much everything with fast and slow corners and hard braking and acceleration points, making it crucial to get the rider and machine in optimal balance.
Stefano Manzi: “We’re already there, the final race weekend of the year. The season went by very quickly so I hope to be able to enjoy this weekend as much as possible. I know that I’m still in the fight for the championship, even though the chances are very slim. But there’s still a possibility so we will fight until the end, then we’ll see what we can take home. I cannot wait to get started on Friday.”
Glenn van Straalen: “With a good second race in Estoril, we ended that weekend with a positive feeling so I am looking forward to racing in Jerez this weekend. It’s already the last of the season unfortunately, the last few weeks have really flown by. The weather conditions look good so I think we can have a good weekend.”
Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing team manager: “The last race weekend of the year is always special and we are very happy to welcome many sponsors and relations this weekend. Last weekend in Estoril was very solid from our riders so we hope to keep this momentum going in these last two races of the year. The title race is not yet decided so we will give everything we have to see if we can still win the championship. The chances are minimal but as long as there is still a possibility you have to keep believing in it, especially considering the speed our riders have at the moment.
The weather forecasts look good and Jerez always suits the Yamaha YZF-R6 well. It will be a historic weekend with the farewell of the R6 in the World Supersport championship. Friday night, in fact, the Yamaha YZF-R9 will be presented in full race trim which Ten Kate Racing and Ten Kate Racing Products are eagerly looking forward to.”
The race weekend at the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto begins with free practice on Friday morning, followed by the Superpole session at 16:00h in the afternoon. After a warm-up session on Saturday morning, Race 1 will start at 15:15h in the afternoon. The same goes for Sunday with a warm-up session in the morning and Race 2 at 15:15h.
