Ten Kate Racing are ready for battle in Portimao

This weekend marks the second round of the FIM Supersport World Championship at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal. Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing heads to the spectacular circuit well prepared after completing a two-day test there last week.

Although the race weekend at Phillip Island took place five weeks ago, Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing has not been idle. After a solid start to the season at the Australian circuit — where, due to tricky weather conditions, many points could also have been lost — the team now heads into the second race weekend of 2026 with great confidence.

Thanks to positive findings during last week’s two-day test in Portimão, Can Öncü, Yuki Okamoto and the Yamaha R9 are ready to perform at their best on the Portuguese circuit, which is particularly known for its spectacular layout with significant elevation changes.

Can Öncü:
“Last week we had a very good test in Portimão, so we head into the race weekend with very good feelings. I am looking forward to go racing again at Portimão, because Phillip Island was quite difficult for us. I am feeling very good with everyone in the team and I am looking forward to see them again this weekend. Hopefully we can have a nice race weekend and achieve some good results together, scoring as many points as possible.”

Yuki Okamoto:
“We had a great test at Portimão last week and after that I returned to Japan, working hard to prepare for the race. We didn’t have such a great weekend in Phillip Island so I am looking forward to this one in Portugal, where hopefully we can be more competitive.”

Kervin Bos – Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing Team Manager:
“The second race weekend is coming up and this time we are racing in Portimão. It is always an interesting round because it is the last one before our home race in Assen. The team completed a very good test in Portimão last week with two days of sunny conditions, so both Can and Yuki are very well prepared. We expect to show good speed here and that both riders can perform at their best. For the team, it will be important this weekend to apply all the technical findings gathered since the race weekend in Australia.”

The race weekend at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve begins with a free practice session on Friday morning, followed by the Superpole session at 16:00 local time (17:00 Central European time). After a warm-up session on Saturday morning, the first race of the weekend will take place at 14:00 local time (15:00 CET). The same schedule applies on Sunday, with a morning warm-up session and Race 2 at 14:00 local time (15:00 CET). Please note: daylight saving time begins during the night from Saturday to Sunday.
