Sensational double victory for Danny Kent and McAMS Racing at Thruxton

The sixth round of the 2025 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Thruxton ended in spectacular style for McAMS Racing and Danny Kent, with the team securing their first-ever double victory at the Andover circuit and climbing two places to third in the championship standings.

Kent’s winning weekend began on Friday with a schedule of two Free Practice sessions, where the McAMS crew focused on endurance and conserving tyre life around Thruxton’s notoriously abrasive surface. The former Moto3 World Champion topped both sessions, setting the day as fastest with a best lap of 1:14.907.

On Saturday morning, Kent continued his strong form, finishing third in Free Practice 3. Qualifying proved more challenging, leaving him eighth on the grid, but the team remained confident in their race pace over the longer distances.

When the lights went out for Saturday’s 20-lap opener, Kent wasted no time carving through the pack, moving from eighth to third in just one lap. After briefly slipping to fourth, he launched an attack for the lead at the end of Lap 9, setting the pace out front before settling into a fierce podium battle. In a thrilling finish, Kent crossed the line second, signalling his intent for the rest of the weekend.

Lining up in second for Sunday’s Sprint race, and free from the need to manage tyres, Kent took the lead by the end of Lap 1, holding position before the race was halted on Lap 5 after a red flag incident.

In the eight-lap restart, Kent fought hard against Brad Ray, Kyle Ryde, and Christian Iddon, hitting the front on the penultimate lap and holding firm to claim his first Bennetts BSB win of the 2025 season, and his first victory in dry conditions.

Starting second for the final 20-lap race, Kent played the long game, shadowing the leaders in the early stages to conserve tyres. A decisive move on Lap 9 put him into third, though he briefly dropped to fifth in the heat of battle.

Undeterred, Kent clocked the fastest lap of the race on Lap 14, then charged past Iddon and Ray to seize the lead at Club Chicane on the penultimate lap.

Under intense pressure from Ray in the final corners, Kent held his line as his rival ran wide at the chicane, sealing his, and McAMS Racing’s, first Bennetts BSB double victory in unforgettable fashion.

This triumphant weekend at Thruxton propels Kent and McAMS Racing to third in the championship standings – a huge boost of confidence and momentum as they head to the iconic Cadwell Park circuit in two weeks’ time.

Danny Kent
McAMS Racing, Rider

“This weekend has been a dream come true for the team and I. Our success stems from a strong Friday, where we worked so hard on endurance and making the tyre last, which has paid off massively in the weekend’s races. What an amazing weekend it’s been for me and McAMS Racing, we’ve moved up to third in the championship standings which is a great result for myself, the team and for Yamaha. We’ll keep working and come back strong next time out.”

Tim Martin
McAMS Racing, Team Owner

“What a weekend! To take not just our first win of the season, but to back it up with a double at Thruxton is something really special for everyone in the team. Danny rode with intelligence, patience, and that killer instinct when it mattered most. The whole team worked tirelessly to give him the package to make it happen, and it’s great to see all that hard work come to fruition. This result is the reward for all the hours of hard graft behind the scenes, and it gives us huge momentum heading into Cadwell Park. We’ve shown what we’re capable of, and we’re hungry to achieve more throughout the second half of the season. Tina from McAMS paid us a visit this weekend, and it feels great to repay them with the results they deserve. We also had H&J Martin joining us for the weekend as a new sponsor for 2025, which made the success even more special. A big thank you to them, and to all our partners, for their incredible support.”
