The fourth round of the Quattro British Supersport Championship took place at Snetterton Circuit this weekend, where Scars Racing Ducati and Luke Stapleford delivered another impressive performance, securing a race victory and a hard-fought third-place finish to extend their championship advantage.
Stapleford was the rider to beat throughout the weekend, topping every practice and qualifying session before putting the Scars Racing Ducati on pole position for both races.
A strong start in Saturday’s 10-lap Sprint race saw Stapleford locked in an intense battle with Oli Bayliss, son of former British and World Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss. The pair traded positions throughout an entertaining contest before Stapleford made a decisive move on the final lap to claim a superb victory.
Starting Sunday’s feature race from pole once again, Stapleford immediately encountered rear grip issues but showed determination and experience to manage the problem throughout the race. As fuel load reduced, his pace improved, allowing him to fight back into podium contention and secure third place at the chequered flag. The valuable championship points see him extend his lead in the standings to 36 points.
Luke Stapleford:
“It was a bit of a mixed weekend. The bike was absolutely mega throughout practice and qualifying and I couldn’t have asked for more. The first race was a fantastic battle with Oli and we pushed each other hard throughout. There was a small gap on the final lap and I knew I had to go for it. Thankfully it paid off and we came away with the win.
I was really fired up for the second race, but from the opening lap I was struggling with rear grip. As the fuel load came down, I was able to get my head down a bit more, but it was still a real challenge. I’m really pleased to have secured third place because those points could prove crucial at the end of the season.
A huge thank you to the whole team, our team sponsors and my personal sponsors for making all of this possible. Everyone worked incredibly hard all weekend and we’ve managed to extend our championship lead, which was the main objective.
I actually can’t wait to be a wild-card next weekend at the Donington World Supersport round and hopefully show what we can do as a team. It’s a fantastic opportunity and looking forward to merging with the Feel Racing Ducati team.”
Leigh Finlay – Team Co-Owner:
“Considering the issue we experienced in the second race, we’re delighted to come away with two podium finishes, including a win and a third place. It’s a long championship and consistency is key. Every point we score moves us closer to our goal.
Everything else worked perfectly this weekend and we’re looking forward to heading to Donington WSBK next weekend then Brands Hatch in a couple of weeks’ time.”
It’s a busy few weeks ahead, and we’re excited for what’s to come!
We’re delighted to be taking part in the Donington WSBK weekend next weekend as part of the Feel Racing Ducati Team. It’s always a fantastic event, and we’re looking forward to an incredible weekend of racing and seeing so many familiar faces.
Then, we’ll be heading to Brands Hatch for another action-packed race weekend. We can’t wait to get back out on track and continue what promises to be an exciting summer of racing.
If you’re coming along to either event, be sure to come and say hello, we’d love to see you there!
