The PTR Triumph squad heads into the opening round of the 2026 FIM Supersport World season full of confidence after an impressive two-day test at Phillip Island. Home hero Oli Bayliss and teammate Tom Booth-Amos ended the final day second and third respectively, underlining the team’s strong pre-season form.
Under dry and sunny skies at Phillip Island, Bayliss was immediately at home on his Triumph Street Triple 765 machine. Comfortable from the outset, he delivered consistently competitive lap times across both sessions to secure P2 overall on the combined timesheets.
Teammate Booth-Amos took slightly longer to find his rhythm but showed steady progression throughout the day. Finishing P9 in the opening session before improving to P7 later on, the Brit placed P9 overall on combined times, with clear potential for more to come.
Dry conditions greeted the riders for the opening session of day two, allowing both PTR Triumph riders to continue their momentum. Bayliss once again demonstrated his pace, setting a blistering 1’32.559 to claim P2 for the second consecutive day.
Rain arrived just 20 minutes into FP2, cutting valuable track time short, but not before Booth-Amos delivered a 1’32.713 to secure P3, placing both PTR Triumph machines inside the top three.
With strong pace in both dry sessions and clear progression across the test, the outlook is extremely positive for the PTR Triumph squad as they prepare for Free Practice on Friday and the opening round of the 2026 season.
Oli Bayliss: “Good feelings for the test, we made good improvements and I’m feeling comfortable on the bike. Thanks to the team for their work over the past two days.”
Tom Booth-Amos: “Overall I’m happy with the work we’ve done the last 2 days, my first time riding in the dry since Jerez so took a little bit of time to get back in the flow of things. Still a little bit of work to be done for the race but feeling good and confident!”
PTR Triumph Factory Racing Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “We have to be happy with second and third fastest in the test. Oli just improved the whole test. Tom struggled at the start but by his own admission he’s not normally great at testing so in the end we are happy. It’s very positive looking towards the weekend, we will analyse all the data and look to improve for the race and be right there but a good job. I’d also like to say well done to Compos Racing, Ondrej Vostatek, a former rider of ours, sixth fastest overall so congratulations to them. We are working very closely with them so that all Triumphs can be as good as possible. Good job for us as a team and all Triumph Racing.”
