As the summer break comes to a close, PTR Triumph embarks on a busy period with three of the final five rounds of the 2024 FIM Supersport World Championship taking place in September, starting with Round 8 at Magny-Cours in France this weekend.
With a top ten finish last time out in Portimão, Tom Booth-Amos is hoping for an even stronger weekend at the 4.411km track which is characterised by multiple direction changes and heavy braking zones.
Tom Booth-Amos: “Finally back on track after a few weeks off. We’re ready to get going again and have a solid weekend.”
Portugal was a disappointing follow up to the two points scoring finishes at Most for Ondrej Vostatek and he faces a battle to keep his focus on his riding in France. The weather is also likely to throw up some challenges with heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast for both Saturday and Sunday.
Ondrej Vostatek: “So this race will be a little bit tough for me, especially mentally because I missed a few graduation exams which I need to retake on Tuesday after the race so it will be a challenge to focus on the racing and my exams. I wouldn’t say this is one of my favourite tracks but I kind of like it, we know where our potential to improve is and we will see.”
PTR Triumph Team Manager Simon Buckmaster: “Now we go into the final part of the season, five rounds left and now they come thick and fast, including two back-to-back so in this gap we have got as well prepared as we can to put us in the best position and also considering every way we can to improve our package and be as good as we can as a team. Magny-Cours was one of Niki’s best rounds last year with two fifth places and it’s another round that Ondrej has already ridden at. We have to say after Ondrej’s performance in Most, Portimão was very disappointing considering how well he went there in 2023. He’s been riding at Brno in his home country between these rounds working on improving himself which is the main area he needs to improve and we will be right there working with him to get the best out of him and get back into good points scoring positions. With Tom we’ve found the pace now, we just need in these last five rounds to hit consistent good results. We need to be in the top six, that is what he’s capable of and we as a team and a package are capable of. Tom and I have been discussing it and we are going to work on keeping him calm and focussed, not letting the passion get the better of him so we don’t make mistakes. We need top six results and higher, I know he is capable of it, we know we are and we are going to make it happen.”
