The eighth round of the 2025 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Donington Park brought both promise and challenge for McAMS Racing and Danny Kent.
Despite sustaining an injury to his right hand in Race 3 on Sunday that sidelined the former Moto3 World Champion from the weekend’s final outing, there were plenty of positives to take away from a competitive showing across the three days.
The weekend began strongly on Friday, with Kent immediately finding a confident rhythm in both Free Practice sessions. He ended the day as the fastest Yamaha rider in an impressive second place overall, also setting his personal best time in the final sector of the 2.49-mile circuit.
Saturday continued the momentum as Kent secured a second-row start in Qualifying with a rapid 1:27.310 lap time, underlining his potential as a front-runner for the first Sprint Race of the weekend.
Race 1 saw Kent battle hard through the pack after an early shuffle down the order. Showing determination, he fought his way up to fourth and engaged in a podium battle with Rory Skinner, maintain position ahead of the Scottish rider on the penultimate lap.
A red flag later that lap cut proceedings short, and while the classification just denied the team a sixth podium of the season, the performance cemented the team’s ability to challenge at the sharp end.
On Sunday morning, Kent again showed strong pace in warm-up, giving the team confidence ahead of the day’s trio of races. Starting from eighth in Race 2, he brought the bike home in 10th, a challenging outing but adding more valuable points to the team’s championship campaign.
Race 3 began with promise, with Kent well in the mix before a safety car was deployed. Unfortunately, a crash at Fogarty Esses brought his race to an early end. Though he sustained an injury to his right hand that ruled him out of the weekend finale, Kent was able to walk away from the incident, and the team remains optimistic for a swift recovery.
While the weekend ended prematurely, McAMS Racing leave Donington Park encouraged by their pace and continued progress.
Danny Kent
McAMS Racing, Rider
“It was a tough way to end what had been a really promising weekend for us. From Friday onwards I felt strong on the bike, and we showed we had the pace to fight at the front. Missing out on the podium in Race 1 was frustrating, but it showed what we’re capable of. The crash in Race 3 was unlucky, but these things happen in racing. I just want to thank McAMS Racing for all their hard work and support this weekend, we’ll regroup, focus on recovery, and come back stronger.”
Tim Martin
McAMS Racing, Team Owner
“First and foremost, we’re glad Danny walked away from what was a nasty crash, even if it means he sits out the final race. Across the weekend, we showed fantastic pace and once again proved that we can mix things up amongst the front. It’s disappointing not to leave with a podium, but the positives are clear to see. I’m proud of the team’s efforts this weekend, and we’ll be behind Danny as he recovers to be back on track as soon as possible.”
