It was a great start to the British Superbike series at Oulton Park with Alfie Davidson in the Sportbike class taking a double race win in the Pirelli Sportbike class! Jack Bednarek had a very solid weekend in the Pirelli Superstock series making huge improvements and finishing 17th in the race.
Jack on the Aprilia RSV4 consistently improved his times and qualified 17th on the grid for the race just 1.7 seconds off pole. He got boxed in on the opening few corners of the race and dropped a few places but he worked hard, set some consistent lap times and was able to finish in 17th out of a stacked field of 40, the race was cut short after an incident and the red flag was brought out.
Alfie Davidson on the Aprilia 660 was flying all weekend in the Sportbike class, he had a fantastic qualifying session and put it on his first pole position. He struggled off the start and lost a couple of places in the opening corners. He soon got his head down, got to the front and took his first win in the Sportbike class by 0.04, an amazing ride!
In the second race of the weekend, he started on the front row but got a bad start and dropped back to sixth, he gained two positions into the final turn and had some work to do. He was setting a fast pace to catch the two front runners. He got to the front on lap five and rode a fantastic race fending off several challenges from behind him, finally taking his second win of the weekend by 0.1.
Alfie – “It was a brilliant weekend from start to finiah for me and the INCompetition Aprilia team. I managed to top every session, put it on pole and finish it off with a double race win!
I’m made up with how the Aprilia felt and I feel so comfortable on it. I can’t thank the team, team sponsors, personal sponsors and my family enough for all their input, without them we wouldn’t be here.
Everyone worked so well together and I can’t wait for Donington!”
Jack – “The times in the Superstock class this weekend was extremely close and it’s a very fierce and competitive class. The race was no different, I got away well but wasn’t committed enough and dropped a couple of places and I then had to make those places back up.
I settled into the race but didn’t have quite enough pace to bridge the gap who were battling for 8th. Considering we are still developing the new bike and I’m still learning how to ride the Aprilia RSV4 I’m really content and heading to Donington very happy.
We have managed to go faster in every session and making positive steps forwards. It didn’t show with the result but it will take a bit of time and we have a really good base setting now to work on moving forwards.
I must say a huge thank you to the team for their endless hard work.”
Ian Newton – Team Owner – “I’m delighted with the results both Alfie and Jack had this weekend. Alfie was superb on his debut with us, he’s been consistently fast throughout the weekend and to win both races was fantastic. He’s an absolute pleasure to work with and we’re over the moon with his results, two hard races.
We decided with Jack to use this weekend as a test, we had a lot of electronics and components to try and although the result didn’t show it, he really did make some huge steps forward over the weekend and improved each session. It’s a long season and we had nothing at all to prove this weekend. His times were close and we know we have a lot more to come.
I’m very happy with where we are and looking forward to the rest of the season with both riders.”
