Emotionally charged season finale ahead for OMG GRILLA Yamaha

The OMG GRILLA Yamaha team embark on one final weekend of Bennetts British Superbike Championship action this weekend, as the team takes on Brands Hatch for what will be a frantic title-deciding weekend.

Ten rounds and 29 races lead the OMG Racing UK outfit to the final round this weekend, as the Cannock-based squad aim for more glory at Brands Hatch this weekend.

Sitting top of the standings by a mere four points, Kyle Ryde returns to the Kent-based circuit brimming with confidence, after an impressive run of form for the Yamaha rider. Taking a podium finish in at least one race since Thruxton, the Nottinghamshire rider has battled his way to the top of the standings, and heads to a circuit he secured two podium finishes at earlier in the year.

Brands Hatch has been a happy hunting ground for ‘Youth’ with the 27-year-old flying to a final round victory there in the first race of the 2023 season finale weekend and secured a further two podiums. Ryde made a turning point at the mid-way point of the season with his double Sunday podium, which kicked off the Jacksdale man’s run of form.

For Ryan Vickers, it will be an emotional farewell for the Thetford rider, who embarks on his final Bennetts British Superbike Championship weekend. Earlier this year, Vickers flew to a fantastic treble at the 2.43-mile venue and looks to end his time in the BSB paddock on a high.

This weekend’s season finale also sees the points ramp up further, with 35 per victory on offer, meaning a weekend total of 105 points are up for grabs. The weekend kicks off with Free Practice 1 on Friday morning at 10:40, with the final fight for the Qualifying 2 places from 15:00. Saturday’s action commences at 11:50 for Practice 3 ahead of Qualifying. Race 1’s 20-lap scrap gets underway at 16:00.

The season comes to an end on Sunday 13th October with a 10am morning Warm Up, ahead of the 12-lap Sprint Race and the season-ending 20-lap dash.

Championship: 1st (398 points)
“This weekend marks the final round of the Championship and I’m really looking forward to it. My team and I were able to make a strong step forward at Brands Hatch earlier this year and have taken a victory or a podium at every round since. The feeling is good, both on the bike and within myself and I‘m going to give it 100% as always. I know the Championship situation, but I’m going to tackle it with my usual approach and hopefully be crowned Bennetts BSB Champion come Sunday night.

Championship: 5th (265 points)
“I’m really excited for Brands Hatch this weekend, we had an amazing weekend there in the middle of the season with the treble and the circuit holds a lot of special memories for me. The weather’s looking good for the weekend which will play into our hands really well. I want to ride as strong as I can and get the best results I can, but I’m also aware of Kyle and his Championship fight. If I’m in a position to help him then I will and help bring the title back to OMG Racing UK with both bikes running at the front.”

“After ten rounds and 29 races it comes down to this weekend, the season finale at Brands Hatch. We’ve had a strong season with Kyle, and I am really looking forward to seeing him in action this weekend. We know he made a step there earlier in the year and has looked a different rider since, so we know he’ll be up for the fight for this Championship. He heads into this round four points at the top, with a lot of points still up for grabs. For Ryan, this weekend is his final round with us in the BSB paddock. He was dominant here earlier in the year, so hopefully he can be back at the front this weekend and help bring home the title for OMG GRILLA Yamaha and the whole OMG Racing UK team.”

Paul Curran
OMG GRILLA Yamaha, Team Principal

“We’re feeling confident ahead of the final round this weekend. Brands Hatch has been a strong track for the Yamaha, and non-more-so than this year with Ryan’s incredible treble. Kyle worked hard at the start of the July weekend to make a crucial step on Sunday rewarding him with two podiums. That step will put him in a strong position for this weekend. He leads the standings by just four points, but I know every one of the OMG GRILLA Yamaha team will be giving it 100% to bring home the BSB title. Ryan’s Brands Hatch weekend will be his final BSB round before moving on for 2025. We want him to have a strong weekend to end his time with us on a high.”
