C&L Fairburn Properties Racing headed to their local circuit, Cadwell Park, this weekend with Billy McConnell aboard the SMR Performance-backed MMB Racing BMW and what a weekend it was!

Billy delivered a fantastic performance in the Superstock class, securing a brilliant double podium, with a second-place finish on Sunday followed by an impressive third place on Monday.

Fighting at the Front

Billy was on it from the very start of the weekend, qualifying on the front row in second place alongside his long-term friend and fellow competitor, Luke Mossey. It was always going to be an exciting battle, and the two certainly didn’t disappoint!

Both riders put on two exceptional races, with Billy challenging hard for the win and making several attempts to move through into the lead. They battled all the way to the chequered flag, with Billy ultimately taking a fantastic second place.

For Monday’s second race, Billy lined up once again on the front row, this time in third.

The opening laps were particularly scrappy as everyone fought for position, but the field soon settled into a rhythm. With slippery track conditions making things even more challenging, Billy had a huge moment heading into the hairpin. Thankfully, he managed to save the BMW and regroup.

With Scott Swann applying plenty of pressure behind him, Billy dug deep and pushed all the way to the line to secure another hard-fought podium — third place and a brilliant double podium weekend!

“It’s so good to be back on the podium. I was at a bit of a loss at the end of last season as to what to do, and I wasn’t ready to retire!

I’m so grateful to Chris, MMB, SMR and all the team for giving me another chance to prove myself.

It was great to be battling up at the front again, and even more rewarding that it was a battle for the podium with some really good people. I really enjoyed the races there’s still life in the old dog yet!

I hope we can do the final two rounds, but we just have to see.”
