The Bennetts British Superbike Championship went to Snetterton this weekend for round three of the Championship. Billy McConnell and the C&L Fairburn Properties Look Forward Honda did not get the results they deserved for the effort put in. He gained 13th, 17th and 15th places in the three BSB races.
The team made some changes during FP1 and FP2 and Billy just missed out on getting into Q2 in the top 12. He went in to Q1 eager and knew he could have a good run. He was sitting in the top three and on a quick lap when he sadly crashed out, unhurt.
The C&L team worked very hard to get the bike sorted for the opening race in the afternoon. He started from 16th place and worked his way through to 13th and some valuable Championship points in the opening race on Saturday.
He started from 16th again for the opening Sprint race on Sunday. On the madness of the opening lap, he ran straight on at the bottom of the straight, re-joining at the back of the pack. He had to get his head down but could only secure 17th position.
16th again for the final race of the weekend and he was locked in a close battle throughout the race with former World Champion John McPhee, finally crossing the line in 15th position.
Billy – “It was a challenging weekend and so grateful for how hard the team worked. We had a couple of issues and then I hit the dusty part of the track which saw me crash out and give the boys some work to do.
I had a few false neutrals in the opening race, which just felt strange, so we were playing a bit on the cautious side. We had a good final race, and I was locked in a close battle with John.
It’s not the results we wanted but I’m so grateful to the team and all the sponsors for continuing to support us. I really want to get some good results soon which will give us all the boost we need.”
Chris Fairburn – “The team have all worked incredibly hard this weekend and we were hit with a couple of problems.
Hard to believe we are only at round three and there is still a long way to go. We just need to make some progress as we did this weekend and get Billy back where he belongs.
We also need a bit of luck on our side and I’m sure the results will follow. Thank you once again to all the sponsors and everyone involved in making this all happen.”
