Alcoba finishes in the top 10 but retires in second WorldSSP race, while Gerloff finishes in the points in the WorldSBK races

Third for Alcoba in Superpole at Motorland Aragon

The tenth WorldSSP round got underway today at Motorland Aragon in Spain. This is quite literally a home round for rider Jeremy Alcoba, who lives just a few miles from the track.

Alcoba was out this morning for free practice, a session he used to adapt his ZX-6R 636 to the Spanish track, while in the afternoon he took part in Superpole, achieving an excellent third-place finish with a time of 1’52”652, making good use of both his track knowledge and the potential of his bike, so ably prepared by the Kawasaki WorldSSP Team’s technicians.

Jeremy now prepares to start the first of the weekend’s 15-lap races from the front row.

“I’m really pleased with how this first day at Motorland Aragon has gone. This morning, we had a small problem, which was quickly resolved by the team, while in the afternoon’s Superpole I immediately felt comfortable on the bike, finding good feeling. Thanks to the team’s amazing work, I was able to ride with a group of fast riders and set the third quickest time of the session. I need to make a good start in tomorrow’s race if I want to stick with the frontrunners and go all out for the win.”

Gerloff’s Motorland race weekend begins

Kawasaki WorldSBK Team rider Garrett Gerloff took part in the first two free practice sessions of the WorldSBK race weekend at Motorland Aragon, on Friday, 28 September. He finished 14th quickest overall thanks to his best FP1 lap time.

As the tenth round of the 2025 FIM Superbike World Championship began for Garrett Gerloff and his Kawasaki WorldSBK Team, they could not have hoped for better weather conditions to work in. Sunshine and a dry track surface helped them make early progress at the 5.077km long Spanish circuit.

Garrett ended up setting his fastest single lap of the day in the first free practice session while riding his Ninja ZX-10RR. He would narrowly miss out on improving his time in FP2, by just 0.007 seconds.

Now he and his tech crew will work on finding that last piece of the single lap puzzle in FP3 before he takes on the Tissot-Superpole Qualifying session.

“It didn’t feel too bad this morning by the end of the FP1 session. I felt like we made some improvements and we finished inside the top ten. I was kind of hoping to start the second session right where we left off but everybody is going fast. I am not super-far off but it is still difficult. We need to make some changes for tomorrow and find some more time.”

Top ten for Alcoba after strong Superpole result

FIM Supersport World Championship rider Jeremy Alcoba started his home round at Motorland Aragon from the front row of the grid but ended up tenth in the first race of the weekend.

After taking his and his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R 636’s first front row start in third position after the Superpole Qualifying session on Friday, 26 September, Alcoba was in a confident mood to take on the challenge of Race One – especially at a circuit he knows very well from his recent career.

Jeremy started Race One strongly and was running inside the podium positions for a time, before he slipped back as the laps counted down. He would end up in tenth position, fighting against a drop in grip and traction.

He used all his skills and experience to finish inside the top ten. Alcoba crossed the finish line second inside a group of four riders, after 15 laps of intense action at the longest circuit on the calendar.

“In Superpole Qualifying I immediately felt comfortable on the bike, finding a good feeling. Thanks to the team’s amazing work, I was able to ride with a group of fast riders and set the third quickest time of the session. We knew from the beginning that we could struggle during the race. It turned out like this and I tried to manage the tyre as well as possible, but the difference was too much. We need to work for tomorrow, when we will start in P10. I think the team and I can make another step and maybe we can fight for a top five position.”

Gerloff scores a point in race one at Aragon

Garrett Gerloff secured a championship point for 15th place at the Motorland Aragon circuit after the first 18-lap race of the weekend had been completed on Saturday, 27 September.

The 5.077km long Motorland Aragon circuit featured dry and eventually warm conditions for the first WorldSBK race of the weekend, but first of all, Superpole Qualifying had to be negotiated by Gerloff and 22 of his rivals.

On his Ninja ZX-10RR, Garrett placed 16th in a closely packed Superpole Qualifying. He was just 1.285 seconds from the new track best lap time of the fastest rider, Nicolo Bulega.

In the opening race, held in ambient temperatures of 24°C, Garrett pushed as hard as he could around the expansive Motorland circuit and he would finish in 15th place, improving on his starting position by one position.

“It has been a difficult day. I don’t feel that I am riding badly; in reality, I feel like I am riding pretty well. I don’t feel like we are making bad set-up changes either. But everybody is going super-fast, so it is what it is. We are going to make some changes for the races on the final day. Race One was a bit forgettable and nothing to report. Time to go faster tomorrow.”

Alcoba retires from Sunday’s WorldSSP race

Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) was looking forward to improving on his tenth position in Race One when Race Two got underway at Motorland, but the Spanish rider eventually retired after his pace had dropped off through the first half of the 15-lap race.

After the fastest lap times had been taken into consideration from Race One, the Race Two grid had Alcoba and his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R 636 starting from tenth position.

Jeremy ended up 13th after one lap, then 16th after six laps. After crossing the start/finish line in 23rd place on lap ten of the scheduled 15-lap race duration, Jeremy entered the pits and ultimately retired.

This was only Jeremy’s second no-finish of his rookie WorldSSP season, and only the second time he has not scored points in any race. In the overall champion standings Alcoba is now ninth, with a total of 134 points – just two behind the rider ahead of him.

Soon Jeremy will cross the border from his native Spain to take part in the 11th round of the FIM Supersport World Championship season, at Estoril in Portugal, between 10-12 October.

“First of all I want to say sorry to all the team because I couldn’t finish the race. This morning in warm-up we tested something that could have maybe helped us to be faster than yesterday. It was not enough and I didn’t feel good, so we went back to the settings from yesterday. In Race Two the feeling was not so good. I tried to push to be there, but I have only been near the front for two laps, then I had a lot of mistakes, I could not ride well, and I went wide every time. I could not understand why I was riding so slowly. I could not finish the race. I will do my best for the next two rounds.”

Points for Gerloff in the final Motorland race

Kawasaki WorldSBK Team rider Garrett Gerloff competed in two races at Motorland Aragon on Sunday, 28 September, securing a points-scoring position after taking a 14th-place finish in Race Two.

Dry conditions were maintained at Motorland Aragon through the entire race schedule, with stronger winds appearing near the end of the day at the 5.077km-long hillside circuit.

Sunday proved to be a tough race day for Gerloff, as he finished the ten-lap ‘sprint’ race in 15th position. He had started from 16th place on the grid.

Garrett would score two points in Race Two, which was held over 18 laps, riding his Ninja ZX-10RR from 19th position on lap one to 14th at the end. He scored two championship points for his efforts but was not able to find his desired pace from his set-up to advance any further.

Gerloff leaves Motorland Aragon 16th in the championship table, having scored three points overall this weekend.

The WorldSBK championship’s 11th – and penultimate – round will take place at the Estoril circuit in Portugal, between 10 – 12 October. The final round, at Jerez in Spain, will take place just one week later.

“It got a little windy on Sunday and it looked like it might rain at the end. Positives for the weekend were that I did not crash, but that’s about all I can think of. It was a tough weekend. I am trying my best, giving it my all, like always. I just don’t have the pace that I need. We have got to put our heads together and figure something out, because it was looking like we were making progress in the middle of the year and now we are just going backwards. I am not trying to be negative but I am not happy and we need to make some improvements, because this is not where we deserve to be.”
